Chithirai Festival – 19th April to 05th May 2026

The Chithirai Festival is one of the grandest festivals in Madurai, celebrated for about two weeks at the Meenakshi Amman Temple. It marks the divine wedding of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar (Lord Shiva), along with the legend of Lord Kallazhagar (Vishnu) arriving late for the ceremony.

The festival begins with flag hoisting and ends with Lord Kallazhagar’s return. Highlights include royal processions, temple chariots, music, and large gatherings of devotees across the city.
